LACP Student Benefits and Responsibilities 


Students Responsibilities

College Promise supports first-time college students from the transition from High School to college, to the completion of their educational goal by providing FREE tuition for up to 2 years.
Each student receives:

  1. Assigned Success Coach to assist on their journey.
  2. Connection to other campus resource
  3. FREE LACP Chromebook
  4. Stipend award each term 

Promise student must ensure that they remain eligible and complete the tasks below to remain in good standing.

 

College Promise Student Checklist

  1. Be enrolled Full-Time: Maintain Enrollment in at least 12 units for the Fall or Spring Semesters. Student units may vary ONLY if you:
  2. Maintain 2.0 Grade Point Average (GPA) or better
  3. Renew Financial Aid Application: Renew your FAFSA/CA Dream Act application each academic year

  • Stay Ready!: Have a set schedule to attend class, study and complete homework
  • Comprehensive Ed Plan: By the end of September, you must meet with your Academic Counselor to develop your roadmap to success
  • LACP Student Success Summit: Mandatory event held in October
  • Progress report: will be provided to be signed by all instructors to monitor your academic progress by October. If needed, attend tutoring or seek assistance as frequent as possible!
  • Special Program Obligations: Make sure to set up and attend appointments with programs such as EOPS. DSPS, Puente, Umoja, etc.
  • Stay Connected: Connect with you Success Coach at least 3 times during each semester, virtually, via email, call, or by visiting the College Promise Lab

  • Stay Ready!: Have a set schedule to attend class, study and complete homework
  • Comprehensive Ed Plan: By the end of September, you must meet with your Academic Counselor to develop your roadmap to Completion of Degree, certificate and/or Transfer 
  • Special Program Obligations: Make sure to set up and attend appointments with programs such as EOPS. DSPS, Puente, Umoja, etc.
  • Stay Connected: Connect with you Success Coach at least 3 times during each semester, virtually, via email, call, or by visiting the College Promise Lab
  • Student Success Sessions/Workshops: Attend sessions based on Success Coach recommendation 

Failing to meet these qualifications will affect your status as a College Promise student. Students unable to maintain a 2.0 GPA or complete 12 units by the end of the semester are required to complete an LACP Appeal Application.

The Appeal Process is an opportunity to create a plan to get back on track and address any additional services you may need such as tutoring, counseling or skill building. Your Success Coach can assist you with LACP appeal.

Fees and additional opportunities

College Promise will cover tuition fees, the cost of your classes and provide additional Support as available however here are the cost you need to be aware of, AND the amazing programs that may assist you with them

  1. Books and class materials - these are some of the programs that may assist you
    • EOPS Book voucher and specialized services
    • UMOJA
    • Puente
  2. Health Fees – LACP will cover your health fee. You are entitled to assistance from the Student Health Center (link embedded). Learn about their services!
  3. Associated Student Organization Fees – Check out ASO and what they are all about. They are the YOUR student voice on campus. You are responsible for this fee, and it is well worth it!
  4. Non Resident Fees – If you see any non resident fees on your record please connect with the DRC Center. They will assist you as this must be corrected as early as possible.

Opportunities for International Travel and Summer Jobs/Internships

As LACP is a City of LA initiative, you will have be connected to opportunities targeting City of LA Youth

The Mayor’s Youth Ambassador Program is a free international travel program that gives College Promise Students the opportunity to travel around the world.
These students get to meet peers from around the world, visit important historical sites, and meet important political figures. College Promise who qualify for the MaYa program are rewarded with free travel, lodging, meals, and insurance.
