Health/Medical Insurance

Unlike many other countries, health care in the U.S. is extremely expensive. Unexpected circumstances may result in large medical bills and long-term financial hardship for F-1 students. Because of this Los Angeles Community College District requires every international student to purchase the insurance plan that is offered through our district. Currently international students can enroll in the Anthem Blue Cross plan that is administered through Gallagher Student Health and Special Risk.

The coverage and cost for 2020-2021 academic year is as follow:

Term Coverage Dates Price
Fall semester August 15th – January 31st $760.00
Spring Semester February 1st – August 14th $760.00
Winter Intersession December 15th – January 31st
(Applies only to students who are admitted for Winter)
$183
Summer Intersession May 15th – August 14th

If you have a medical emergency, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room. For non-emergency medical needs, you can find a doctor or go to an urgent care. Make sure to take your medical insurance card and a picture ID with you.

In order to get the best coverage through your health plan, you must choose doctors and hospitals that are in network with Anthem Blue Cross.

Contact the International Student Center for questions or concerns about your medical insurance.
