  • Your acceptance letter
  • I-20 for your F-1 student visa
  • Other important information

Students Applying from Outside the United States

Upon acceptance, complete the listed tasks before you arrive in the United States.

  • 1. Pay I-901 SEVIS Fee
A video, available on Study in the States website, walks students and exchange visitors through the steps of paying the I-901 SEVIS fee by payment in U.S. dollars by credit card on, or by check, money order or Western Union.

  • 2. Apply and obtain an F-1 International Student Visa
Apply for an F-1 International Student Visa using the DS-160, Online Nonimmigrant Visa Application form. You must contact the U.S. Embassy or U.S. Consulate’s office for exact information regarding documents needed and procedures when applying.

Transfer Students

If you are a student currently studying in the United States with a valid I-20, you must provide a copy of your Los Angeles Trade-Technical College (LATTC) acceptance letter to your current school and request they transfer your active SEVIS record to LATTC.

Here are the steps after your admission to Los Angeles Trade-Technical College:

1. Arrival and Check-In Date

If you have applied from outside of the U.S. your F-1 visa allows you to arrive here 30 days prior

to your program start date. Arriving earlier will help you with acclimating to your new environment before the hectic start of the semester. It will also allow you to secure your housing, enroll for classes, take care of banking needs, apply for your driver’s license or CA ID card, etc. Remember that International Student Center is closed on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. You need to bring your passport/visa page and your I-94 when you come to check in.

If you are an F-1 student transferring in from another U.S. institution and have travelled outside the U.S., you need to bring a copy of your I-94 on the check-in date, attend the International Student Orientation, and see our counselor to enroll for your classes.

If you are an F-1 student transferring in from another U.S. institution and haven’t travelled outside the U.S., all you need is to attend the International Student Orientation and see our counselor to enroll for your classes.

2. Pre-arrival Online Academic Counseling

Pre-arrival academic counseling is available for students with access to a webcam, internet connection and personal or laptop computer. Smartphones and tablets are not compatible. This orientation will cover information about maintaining your status, academic policies, and college resources. not provided in the LAPC Online Orientation. The date for the International Student Program orientation will be provided to you at your college check-in appointment.

4. Schedule Appointment for Academic Counseling
