LACP - Creating a City of Graduates

The Los Angeles College Promise (LACP) serves first-time, full-time college students with a comprehensive strategy designed to support students to complete a higher education degree and/or a workforce certificate. We help students "start right" on their way to "ending right" with a degree, university transfer or workforce certificate in a timely, efficient manner. It is a partnership between Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD), Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), City of Los Angeles, LA Chamber of Commerce, UNITE LA and private philanthropy.

Important aspects of the Promise are waived tuition for the first two years of college, priority enrollment, additional financial support, and a dedicated support team providing a wide array of academic and student support services.

Important aspects of the LACP are:
  • Waived tuition for two years of full-time college – based on financial aid eligibility. ALL students must complete financial aid application each year.
  • Priority enrollment at any of LACCD's nine colleges – upon completion of matriculation process and remaining in LACP.
  • Dedicated support team providing a wide array of academic and student support services

Who is eligible?

All first-time, full-time students are eligible for LA College Promise. Regardless of graduation date, as long as a student has not taken ANY credit-bearing college since graduating from high school, they are eligible. Courses taken while in HS under Concurrent Enrollment do not have a negative impact on eligibility. College Promise will cover in state tuition fees.

On the other hand, the California Promise College Grant (previously known as Board of Governors Fee Waiver “BOG’”) helps waive the cost of student enrollment depending on information students provide regarding their income on their financial aid application.
