FOR ON-LINE STUDENTS

To help students get the most out of their higher education, the college provides tests that assess a student’s general educational background and skills in: Math, English and English as a Second Language.  These tests help students select the educational programs that are realistic and in line with their level of academic preparation and experience.  Trade-Tech currently offers a computerized assessment test called ACCUPLACER, which is available on a walk-in, first come, first serve basis in the R Building.  You will receive a copy of your assessment results and the counselors will use them to make course recommendations.

Since some online students will not be able to come to LATTC to take this test, there are several alternatives that you can use to get correct assessment and placement into classes.  This is used for fulfillment of pre-requisites for some classes, too.

Option 1: Take the Accuplacer test at another community college and send the results to LATTC.

  1. If you have taken the Accuplacer at another college within the last year, let us know the results.  If it was longer than 1 year ago, you need to take it again.
  2. If you want to take the Accuplacer at another college, download and print the letter from our campus placement center.  Take it to one of the other colleges in California that does the Accuplacer test.
  3. Take the Accuplacer test, paying whatever fees they charge you (about $5) and fax the results to us.
Option 2: If you have completed college classes at other institutions which are equivalent to those at LATTC, let us know.  You can test equivalency in two ways:
  1. CAN - Examine the CAN numbers on the LATTC classes you want equivalency for and the classes that you took.  If the CAN numbers are the same, you can request equivalency in lieu of placement testing.
  2. ASSIST.org lists the classes that are acceptable for IGETC and if those from another college match what transfers from LATTC, you can request equivalency in lieu of placement testing.
  3. Contact Reina Ramirez via email at ramirerm@lattc.edu to request this option.
  4. Contact David Esparza via email at mailto:esparzdr@lattc.eduif you need assistance with transcript evaluation.  In order to get placed in a class that requires English or Math pre-requisite, official transcripts are required.
Option 3: Advanced Placement Classes in High School.
  1. If you took an AP exam in English and scored a 3 or higher, you can request placement into English 101 in lieu of taking the English Placement test.
  2. If you took the AP Calculus test and scored a 3 or higher, you can request the Math Placement test to be waved and you can take the math class of your choice.
  3. Contact Reina Ramirez via email at ramirerm@lattc.edu to request this option.  You will need to provide proof of your scores.
NOTE: You can provide unofficial transcripts when challenging the Placement Process but you will need to provide official transcripts to get credit for classes towards graduation.
