Architecture Programs Grow at LATTC
Photo: LATTC Architecture instructor Marcela Oliva demonstrates concepts of urban planning to her class while local television station rolls video tape.Los Angeles Trade Tech is the only public educational institution in Los Angeles County specializing in the field of architecture that incorporates 3-D modeling, animation, multimedia, digital design, M.A.P.S./G.I.S., historic preservation, and computer-aided design in their educational program. The college is a leader in satisfying workforce demands and transfer needs. These fields are among the fastest growing in the capital of design, Los Angeles.

One important component of all of these programs is the creative design process. According to the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation, creative industries in Los Angeles account for 1,057,200 jobs and $121.78 billion in sales revenues annually in Los Angeles County. Recently, industry experts met as an advisory group to tour the program facility, talk to students and faculty and recommend equipment and techniques to keep the program on the leading edge of technology. Spanish language television, Channel 34, recorded the event.

Arch-Tech ARCHITECTURE TECHNICIANS assist the architect to define, create, and organize buildings, urban spaces, and cyber-spaces. Architecture technicians prepare, capture, filter, and prioritize building parts, from product design to manufacturing, construction, and maintenance.

DIGITAL DESIGN studies 3-D object modeling, the design process, and digital tools. The basic skills developed under this program are 3-D prototype, visualization, conceptualization, and 3-D composition using the design process. Fields include stage design, game design, furniture design, virtual reality, and interior design.

M.A.P.S./G.I.S. is a program using a spatial information system for architecture and urban planning. This career option focuses on the issues of design and theory as they relate to large systems, such as transportation, infrastructure, and global communication. The maps integrate layers of information that visualize scenarios that solve complicated problems. Interactive maps present powerful ideas with solutions communicating in new interactive ways.

MAPPING LA @ COMMUNITY PLANNING is a new certificate program directly responding to community needs and the Neighborhood Councils. Rebuilding the economy of urban communities represents a new, growing, and exciting career opportunity. LATTC offers an interdisciplinary program certificate from the Architecture Environmental Design Discipline M.A.P.S./G.I.S. Program and Community Planning Program.

CADD Computer Aided Design and Drafting. Drafters now use computer-aided drafting (CAD) systems to prepare drawings. This certificate is directed to professionals and students in construction fields who need to update their skills to include CAD technology.
