Cesar Chavez Comes to Life at LATTC
It is a one-man show about a single historic figure, but “Stories of Cesar Chavez” truly is about a person of many facets. Local actor Fred Blanco brought his performance to the Grand Theater this week as part of the ASO Cinco De Mayo celebration. The performance was a splendid journey through the life and times of Cesar Chavez and brought a new foundation and a new resonance to a man who some of us honor but few of us really know. Blanco worked seamlessly between the fields of Delano and the halls of Sacramento. He captured Chavez as a person, the one behind the unionization of the farmworkers and someone who was a very religious man as well as a family man. It was a great presentation. Coming on just before Blanco, was the dance group “Corazon de Mexico”, a ballet folklorico group that dazzled the audience with traditional dances. Some of the performers were the children of our very own Phil Schmerber. 080508 |
