We're Going to State!
The “Killa Beavs” have done it. This college's basketball team has fought its way into the most elite tournament among community colleges. On Saturday the Beavers made history. Trade Tech dispatched a hungry Irvine Valley College 84-81 right here in our own gym, in a game where the Beavers led most of the way, only to watch the game turn into a nail biter at the end. This is our second win in the state playoffs and qualified us for a trip to the state championship tournament in Stockton . This is the first time this college has been to the state championship tournament under this new format. It is quite an accomplishment for a group of scholar-athletes that have represented us during an amazing season that includes a conference championship. We are now ranked third in the state and have a fighting chance at winning some games at the state tournament. The Beavers have played their hearts out all season and the March Madness is building. This team has been a great example of what hard work can do. Congratulations are not enough for Coach Wells, his staff and his players. Who would have thought the little vocational community college in downtown LA would be demanding the respect of basketball teams across California? We are placing a banner near the K-Mall this week, for students and staff to sign to support the team.We are planning a celebration for the Beavers once the tournament is completed. But right now, it's time to throw it down…up in Stockton. We're with you Beavers! 080310
