Maria Shriver Brings WeConnect to LATTC
WeConnect 2008 was a tremendous success servicing hundreds of our students and community members. This is part of a statewide campaign headed by California First Lady Maria Shriver. She is trying to connect the billion dollars of California assistance that goes unclaimed each year, with folks who are eligible to use it. Ms. Shriver was excited to attend this particular event, along with Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, city councilman Bernard Parks, state senator Mark Ridley-Thomas and community activist Sweet Alice. There are four similar events going on statewide. They walked the halls of the Trade Tech's C- building decorated by ASO, and housing numerous community partners in the areas of tax preparation, financial planning, nutritional aid, children's services, utility service and state service access. One of the highlights was ASO Vice-president Ulisses Benavides presenting Ms. Shriver with a bouquet of yellow roses. Once again, Los Angeles Trade-Technical College provided a wonderful venue for a great event, that helped hundreds access important help. Ms. Shriver thanked president Chip Chapdelaine for the generous hospitality of the college. 080211 |
