Uwanawich Kicks the Stuffing out of Competition
The flour and spices were flying at the annual Mrs. Cubbinson's Turkey Stuffing Cook-off which takes place right here at the LATTC Culinary Arts department every year. Ten students took a crack to trying to come up with the tastiest and most unusual presentation of stuffing and the contest brought television cameras and newspaper reporters, as well as dozens of onlookers, including culinary department head Steve Kasmar. When the dust settled, the judges were in agreement about this year's winner. First place went to 4th semester culinary arts student Steven Uwanawich with a wonderful chipotle stuffing that had the judges raving. Second place went to Edwina Manroy a 2nd semester student. She put together a delectable guava stuffing. Third place went to Juana Flores in just her first semester at Trade Tech. She created a manicotti stuffing that had the judges wanting more. The judges said it was one of the closest competitions ever. The event was filmed by KWHY Ch 22 for the segment “Con Chile Y Limon”. Steven received a scholarship for his victory, and there was a turkey certificate for all of the participants. 071115
