Supervisor Burke Kicks Off Recycling Effort at LATTC
Supervisor BurkeThe importance of recycling was the central theme of a major news conference on the campus of Los Angeles Trade-Technical College. Los Angeles county supervisor Yvonne Burke decided to launch her countywide recycling effort on this campus. She explained the importance of college communities in taking a lead in the protection of the environment and chose LATTC because of its commitment to “green technology” and “green construction”. In fact, the Los Angeles Community College captured a national award from former president Bill Clinton, due to its leadership in environmentally-sensitive construction. Supervisor Burke was joined in this effort by the LA Conservation Corps, DWP, DPS, LACCD Trustee Nancy Pearlman, President Chip Chapdelaine and our own ASO vice-president Ulisses Benavides who delivered a few words on behalf of the Trade Tech students. Recycled shopping bags were handed out and Supervisor Burke urged everyone on campus to take part in this wonderful effort, which has gone global. Trade Tech is considered a leader because of the example it sets in recycling. Currently metal and water are constantly recycled in welding program. Instructors Lisa Legohn and Che Chauncy along with their students were very visible at the news conference. 071114
