California's Gold Comes to LATTC
Los Angeles Trade-Technical College is truly emerging. The college now finds itself the subject of several broadcasts, including one of the most well-known in Los Angeles. Huell Howser's program titled “California's Gold” soon will take a look at downtown Los Angeles treasures and Trade Tech will be featured Thursday November 15 at 7:30 p.m. The famous KCET personality chose the campus for one of his pieces, spending about five hours here, filming and enjoying himself. Thanks to the work of Public Relations assistant Roxanne Romo and Fashion department head Carole Anderson, Howser was convinced that this college had to be a destination for his show. The first stop was the gorgeous Grand Theater where Anderson answered numerous questions about its storied history. Anderson gave Howser a tour of Fashion Design classes where he asked students about some of their work. He stopped by Welding and was well-received by Lisa Legohn, who is a television legend herself. Howser was particularly fascinated by how many women were involved in the Trade Tech welding program. Then it was off to Culinary Arts where Howser tried his hand at ice-carving. He enjoyed lunch in the Garden Room and then paid a visit to the kitchen and cafeteria, talking with dozens of students. The highlight of the day was when Culinary Arts instructor Susan Feigenbaum presented Howser with his own chef's uniform complete with his name. He was gracious enough to snap a few photos under the Trade Tech marquee which had been set up to honor his visit. He admitted his embarrassment that in all of the years of visiting downtown locations, he knew almost nothing about the college and the work it does. Howser plans to feature Trade Tech on his program November 15th at 7:30 p.m. on KCET. In addition, once we have a disc of the show, we will air it in the Grand Theater. 071004 |
