International Educators Visit LATTC
Trade Tech hosted a group of visiting dignitaries from the former Soviet State of Georgia on Friday, April 27. All Rectors, the equivalent of our college presidents, from various universities around Georgia they were on a three-week fact-finding tour. Their objective was to learn about the U.S. system of higher education structure and administration. They planned to visit public and private institutions related to higher education at the federal, state, and local levels and explore the maintenance of standard in curriculum development, accreditation, grading and transfer policies. They hope to further understand the development of coursework and evaluation of degree-seeking candidates of various levels and disciplines and learn about the financial management and funding of public and private universities.
In order to accomplish this, they spoke, through their i nterpreters Mr. Alex Tetradze and Ms. Manana Kvilidze, with education professionals about licensing and certification standards and the role of public relations and the media in university management.
They were introduced to the various models of American Higher Education in the context of international education standards. They visited campus offices servicing international students and learned about the role of continuing education in career development.
Participating in the tour were; Dr. Gela Javakhishvili, Rector, Georgia State Agricultural University , Dr. Giorgi Khubua, Rector, Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, Mr. Giorgi Margvelashvili, Rector, Shota Rustaveli Theatre and Film University, Dr. Giorgi Menabde, Rector, Tbilisi State Medical University, Dr. Gigi Tevzadze, Rector, Chavchavadze State University and Dr. Shota Zazashvili, R ector, Meskheti Branch, Ivane Javakhishvili State University.
