 LATTC Dominates Fashion Symposium
Trade Tech Fashion Center students took home 11 of the 15 awards at the annual Fashion Symposium held at the L. A. Fashion Mart and Orpheum Theatre March 17, 2007. Awards won by LATTC students in the fashion design contest categories included 2-Best in Show, 2-First Place, 3-Second Place, 5-Third Place, and 5-Honorable Mention awards. More than 325 students from 14 community colleges competed. Thirty industry professionals representing companies such as Oakley, Quicksilver, Juice Couture, Disneyland , and Manhattan Beachwear and instructors/faculty judged the student entries.
LATTC students won awards in all of the design categories. In addition, a team of 3 LATTC students won the Denim Deconstruction Contest. This is a competition between colleges in which student teams transform a basic 5 pocket jean into a new creation/garment in just a half hour.
Award winners also took home valuable prizes including a Feit Sewing Machine (awarded to Best in Show winners), Tuka Tech Software (awarded to the fashion show category winners) and a professional dress form by Vecchiarelli Brothers (awarded to Best in Show in the fashion show category).
LATTC faculty and staff also played a key role in the Fashion Symposium. Carole Anderson and Tessie Fernando organized the Fashion Show, Cynthia Morley-Mower managed ticket sales and reservations, Finna Drebskaya chaired the Display Committee, and faculty assisted with event activities. New fashion instructor, Tiffany Jackson, was a featured speaker on managing offshore productions with the aid of digital production management. And the LATTC Cosmetology department was on hand to do hair and makeup for the fashion show.
Special recognition must also be given to Steve Needleman , president of the LATTC Foundation, for his generous donation of the staff and resources of the Orpheum Theatre. This enabled over 1,400 individuals to attend the symposium's fashion show in this incredible venue.
Congratulations to Carole Anderson, the faculty, and the students of the Fashion department who competed/participated at the Fashion Symposium.
