LATTC Opens New Computer Lab
With 30 new computers available for student use the Open Computer Lab was booted up in C-109. This lab differs from other campus computer labs in that one only needs to be a registered student at LATTC. If others are waiting, the limit for workstation use is one hour. Unlike the other campus study labs, there is no restriction on what a student may view as long as the content is in compliance with the “ use of District and College Facilities ” policies. The computers are loaded with the Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Reader. This basic package is unlikely to change in the foreseeable future.
A student may surf the Internet, check private email or even do homework, if the mood strikes. This is the perfect opportunity for students with limited computer skills to get up to speed on the basics. “We plan to expand the number of computers and establish a help desk [tech support] for students and staff,” said Dr. Monica Masino, Acting Associate Dean of Teaching and Learning Support Services.
This lab was made possible through the efforts of the Associated Students Organization, LATTC MIS Department, Physical Plant and others who at the urging of President Chapdelaine assembled the lab in one week. The lab is open Monday - Thursday 8am-8pm, Friday 8am-2pm and Saturday 9am-1pm. 070307 |
