Creepy Crawly Critters Come Back to LATTC
If you think insects are just creepy crawly pests to be squashed underfoot think again. Dr. Vahak Harutunian and David Jeffress collaborated to present the 2nd annual Chem-Tech Insect Show, Tuesday, November 14. Many of the insects are truly beautiful. Some shine with an iridescent glow while others sport a muted pallet allowing them to blend in with their surroundings. Exotic butterflies from the rain forests of West Africa, Indonesia and Costa Rica were on display. One of the more popular displays was labeled “Icky Things,” you will just have to use your imagination. Many local specimens from the Tehachapi Mountains and other Southern California locations were also presented.
Children from the LATTC Child Development Center were treated to a special tour of the collection. Science classes were invited in to view and study the collection. Except for some of the more exotic African and Asian specimens, which were purchased at insect shows, Harutunian and Jeffress personally collected most of the insects. 061114 |
