PTA Building But a Memory
At approximately 12:15 pm, Friday, July 7, 2006 the last wall of the PTA building near the corner of 21st Street and Grand Avenue crashed to the ground. Within the next few weeks construction will begin on the South Campus project, which includes two five-story office buildings, an underground parking structure and a new athletic field. Modern “smart” classrooms and offices will be housed in the towers, scheduled for completion in the summer of 2009. The campus will have a “front door” facing Grand Avenue created between the two towers.
Other than the eventual removal of the ramp leading to the “F” Building parking lot most of the pre-construction demolition has been completed. A new access ramp is planned, which will be accessed from Flower Street. The existing ramp, accessed from 21st Street will be removed and the land will be absorbed into the South Campus project.
