Current Program
Introductory courses
in Philosophy and Logic are offered to students, who
enroll in the classes to meet transfer requirements
and for personal enrichment. Changes in recent years
in class offerings have been caused by changes in students'
basic skill levels and in population changes in the
surrounding area.
Degrees and Certificates - No degrees
or certificates are offered.
Personnel - At this time one full-time
faculty member and three part-time faculty members teach
classes.
Teaching Methodologies - The primary
teaching method in Philosophy is lecture.
Technology - No classes are currently
offered online or through any other distance education
technology.
Equipment - Chalkboards in Room F234
need to be replaced immediately.
Facilities - Classrooms could be larger
and most have very poor climate control.
Staff Development - Staff Development
offerings and flex activities are adequate at this time.
Future Program
Philosophy will need to adapt to changes
in teaching methods, technology and curriculum development,
as well as differences in student academic preparation.
Enrollment in Philosophy courses has generally reflected
the overall college enrollment, and there is no reason
to assume that this trend will not continue in both
the mid term and long term. See Program Projections.
Degrees and Certificates - No degrees
or certificates are planned.
Personnel - See Projected Faculty and
Staff Needs.
Teaching Methodologies - The primary
teaching method - lecture - will most likely continue
as the instructional method of choice.
Technology - Philosophy classes are
suited for alternative delivery systems, such as online
courses and interactive video, and it is expected that
these systems will become a significant part of the
curriculum.
Equipment - New computers are needed for faculty and
classroom instruction.
Facilities - Larger classrooms, with
better climate and noise control, are needed.
Staff Development - There are no suggestions
for additional Staff Development activities.
