Current Program
Courses in Political
Science, which reflect the goals of the college's Mission
Statement, include Government of the United States,
Modern World Governments and Contemporary World Affairs.
Students enroll in these classes primarily to meet transfer
requirements. Factors that have caused a change in program
within the past ten years include population changes,
the addition of weekend classes, and the college's facility
needs.
Degrees and Certificates
- No degrees or certificates are offered.
Personnel - At
this time the program includes one full-time faculty
member, four part-time faculty members, one classified
employee and one student employee.
Teaching Methodologies
- Lecture is the primary teaching method used in Political
Science.
Technology - No
classes are offered using alternative delivery systems
at this time.
Equipment - Program
computers are in need of repair, and classroom VCRs
and projector lamps need to be replaced.
Facilities - The
location, size and condition of classrooms are adequate.
Future Program
Political Science
will need to adapt to the following conditions in the
next ten years: changes in student academic preparation,
changes in technology and curriculum development, and
changes in the college's recruitment strategies. Changes
in facilities will also be a factor. It is expected
that overall, enrollment in the program will increase
at the same rate as the college's enrollment in both
the mid term and the long term. See Program Projections.
Degrees and Certificates
- It is possible that a degree could be offered in the
long term (ten years).
Personnel - See
Projected Faculty and Staff Needs.
Teaching Methodologies
- No changes in teaching methods are expected in the
future.
Technology - It
is expected that other delivery methods, such as online
courses or interactive video, could become a significant
part of the curriculum as the program grows and technology
improves.
Equipment - In
the next five years, the program needs new VCRs.
Facilities - Additional
classroom space, with Internet accessibility and projection
devices, will be needed as the program grows.
Staff Development
- Faculty members need courses designed to help them
become computer literate. In addition, staff development
activities focusing on college procedures, discipline
and grading would be useful.
