Medical insurance and services are expensive, and some companies don’t even offer complete coverage for their employees. Luckily, LATTC students have access to the school’s Student Health Center. The center provides free and low-cost medical services for all students at a nominal, mandatory fee of $11, which is paid when we register.

This payment entitles you to many important health services, including basic primary care, first aid, health-care counseling, emotional/behavioral counseling, preventive health information and screenings, prescriptions, test and immunizations, and physicals. Free personal physicals (those that don’t require a signature) are available, and the center gives out free condoms to students.

The Health Center provides counseling in family planning, nutrition, healthy lifestyle, health education, STD/HIV, and communicable diseases. Emotional/behavioral counseling helps in stress management, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, self-esteem, eating disorders, substance abuse, domestic violence, crisis management, and suicide prevention. Health screenings include gynecological and self-care. All of these services are free of charge.

A few services require a modest additional fee: they are laboratory tests; Pap smears; HIV tests; Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) tests; pregnancy tests; urinalysis; glucose tests (diabetes); and cholesterol-level tests. Immunizations, including for Hepatitis B, and physicals for employment and those required by specific school programs (such as nursing) also have a fee. Some of these fees are listed below.

The office is staffed every day by Registered Nurse (RN) James Miyazaki. Miyazaki is available Monday 9:30 a.m.-6:00 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m., and Friday 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. A Physician’s Assistant is also available Monday from 11:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. by appointment. To receive Health Center services, you must bring your student ID card or fee receipt as proof of enrollment.

The Health Care Center is located in Building E- Room 102. For any questions or more information their telephone number is (213) 763-3764. LATTC students should be sure to take advantage of these services provided by your college, and keep your health a top priority. Once you have had a chance t benefit from these excellent services, the center provides a patient satisfaction survey, so students can express or provide any opinion on how to improve their Health Center
.
