Essay:
Prom
|
| Clustering or
diagramming is an excellent
strategy to generate ideas and organize your essay. In clustering
lines and circles are used to show relationships between the
Subject/Topic--Sub-Topic--Details. The Diagram below is an essay
with four paragraphs.
The 1st paragraph in blue (introduction)
reflects the two
Sub-Topic in red. The next two paragraphs will
expand the areas in red with Details/examples in white circles.
Please see the sample below. |

Sample of brainstorming and
organization |
|
 |
The actual
organization and writing would look something like this:
- Paragraph #1: Two to three sentences
are created from the "blue/red" circles. For example: "My prom
was not quite what I hoped it would be. I had high
expectations for what I assumed would happen. But the actual
event did not meet my expectations." The sentences in the
quotes would be your "introductory paragraph."
- Paragraph #2: Five to six sentences
that explain and provide examples about what I expected my prom to
be like.
- Paragraph #3: Five to six sentences
that explain and provide examples why my prom did not quite meet
my expectations.
- Paragraph #4: Two to three sentences
that restate what you said in Paragraph #1 the introductory
paragraph.
