What is the assessment test like?

LATTC offers computerized assessment testing. The test is adaptive. This means that the computer automatically determines which questions are presented, based on responses to prior questions. Unlike traditional tests, the computer tailors the test to the examinee. The background questions should be answered as honestly as possible.  The background questions allow the computer to branch out to give the most appropriate test for the individual.

Most students take three (3) test sections:

  • Reading Comprehension (20 questions)
  • Sentence Skills (20 questions)
  • Mathematics (17-20 questions)
You may be asked to complete more than one mathematics test depending on your skill level.

What do I need to bring with me?

Students must bring a picture ID in order to take the test.  There are NO EXCEPTIONS to this policy.  The ID must be original, NO photocopies.  Examples of ID include a California Driver’s License, California ID, a passport, or a high school picture ID.  A current application for admission MUST be on file before taking the test.

Do I need to study for this test?

No.  This is not a pass or fail test.  However, it is important a student take the test to the best of their ability because this test affects the number of Mathematics and English courses a student can enroll in at LATTC.
