NURSING ASSESSMENT

Students interested in Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program at LATTC must take a computerized test from ACCUPLACER in order to gain entry into the program, including those who possess an Associate Degree or higher.  This test is the same test used for placement into Mathematics and English classes.  However, the Nursing Department is not concerned about your placement level; they are concerned about your scores in these two subjects:

Reading Comprehension       20 questions

Arithmetic                               17 questions

The total possible points per section are 120.  Therefore, the highest score per section is 120.

The cut scores are as follows:

Reading Comprehension

Eligibility for CNA                                55—87.9

Arithmetic

Eligibility for CNA, VN, and RN          70—120

Retesting Policy

Students may not retest unless a signed permission letter is given from the Nursing Department or Learning Skills Center.   Please see Ms. Valerie Cole in C-102.  You must present the original signed permission letter to the Assessment Center within 30 days after issuance.

Important Note

If you previously received credit for Health Occupations 1A (HOC 1A) at LATTC after 2002, then you do not have to retake the nursing exam.  But if you passed HOC1A prior to 2002, you must take the computerized test.

If you need a copy of your results, please see the Assessment Center in the K Building Basement.   You must present a valid picture ID.

If you took a nursing exam at another college, please see the Nursing Department for exemption information.
