The Writing Center
provides assistance to all LATTC students interested in improving their
writing skills. In the form of one-on-one
peer tutoring, students receive guidance in all stages of the writing
process from topic selection to final proofreading and editing.
General Information
If a student is referred the Writing Center for assistance,
the student should bring a copy of his or her assignment. Students should have paper, pens,
disks, and other supplies when using the Writing Center. Writing Center tutors assist
students most effectively when they come early and not wait until the
last minute. The Writing Center
tutors are devoted to doing the best possible job within the limits of
their time and the resources available. However, utilizing these services does not guarantee
grade increases.
Philosophy
A central goal of the Writing Center is to assist
students with the writing process than to serve as editors. Typically, students will be asked to
describe their assignment and topic and provide a draft of their paper.
The
Writing Center tutors attempt to create a positive environment for
learning. They work one-on-one
with each student to develop his or her own ideas without taking
control of the assignment. Tutors help with overall critical thinking,
organization, and general writing mechanics.
