Linking Education and the Community….

Students develop and learn by participating in service projects in the community, addressing local needs. Service Learning projects are linked to the curriculum, providing meaningful learning experiences on which students can reflect. Service Learning works everywhere -- in all levels of education and in all types of curricula.

Everyone Wins!

Service Learning programs benefit students, faculty and the community:

  • Improve academic performance

  • Increase students’ motivation by demonstrating the relevance and importance of academic work in real life experiences

  • Enhance higher level thinking skills such as problem solving

  • Enhance students’ self esteem by allowing them to “make a difference”

  • Foster civic responsibility

  • Assist with career and education planning

  • Enrich the teaching experience

  • Provide community involvement resources and support in the educational process

  • Render valuable service to meet direct human, educational, health and environmental needs
