Symbols and abbreviations; pipe fittings and pipe measurement; orthographic, isometric and freehand drawing; blueprint reading and fundamentals of piping layout.

27 Plumbing Layout and Estimating II (3)

Lecture, 3 hours

Layout procedures for one- and two-story residential, commercial and industrial units; estimating procedures for each of these units; pricing methods and bidding practices.

28 Plumbing Code I (3) RPT1

Lecture, 3 hours

Instruction in plumbing codes and ordinances that affect rough-in work in city and county areas; installation of wastes, vents, cleanouts, traps, gas fittings and gas vents; water pipe requirements.

29 Plumbing Code II (3) RPT1

Lecture, 3 hours

Instruction in the uniform plumbing code that involves the current regulations of water and gas systems, fixture installation, water heaters, building sewers, joints/connections and introduction to appendix “A” and reference standards.

31 Backflow Prevention Devices (1)

Laboratory, 3 hours

Fundamentals of cross-connection controls including state and municipal codes, rules and regulations; laboratory work in operating, testing and maintaining vacuum breakers, double check valves and reduced pressure devices.

111 Introduction to Plumbing (3)

Recommended Preparation: Successful completion of both English 64 and Mathematics 105 or equivalent skills. Taken concurrently with Plumbing 112 and 113 in the day program.

Survey of the history of the industry; occupational information, job ethics and career information; occupational hazards, health and safety.

112 Fundamentals of Plumbing (3)

Taken concurrently with Plumbing 111 and 113 in the day program.

Fundamentals of plumbing mathematics and elementary drawings for beginners; the principles and design of water supply and distribution.

113 Basic Plumbing Principles and Practices (6)

Taken concurrently with Plumbing 111 and 112 in the day program.

Lecture, 3.5 hours; Laboratory, 7.5 hours

Fundamentals of plumbing; pipe sizes and calculations, flow in pipe; friction; design, application and general specification of pipes and fittings.

121 Working Drawings and Layout I (3)

Taken concurrently with Plumbing 122 and 123 in the day program

Instruction in applied drafting as related to the plumbing industry; the proper methods and procedures of plan interpretation and application; importance of plumbing specifications.

122 Plumbing Mathematics and Procedures (3)

Taken concurrently with Plumbing 121 and 123 in the day program

Lecture, 3 hours

Mathematics as applied to the plumbing industry; emphasis on formulas peculiar to the industry.

123 Plumbing Practices and Installation (6)

Taken concurrently with Plumbing 121 and 122 in the day program.

Lecture 1.5 hours; Laboratory 13.5 hours

The study and practice of the proper methods and procedures used in installing plumbing fixtures and accessories; installing, fabricating, and testing fixtures applicable to residential and commercial plumbing.

131 Working Drawings II (3)

Prerequisite: Plumbing 121, 122, 123. Taken concurrently with Plumbing 132 and 133 in the day program.

Lecture, 3 hours

Study of blueprints, plans, and drawings as related to the plumbing trade skills, including the interpretation of applicable code and standards. Basic principles of estimating, including materials and their quantities.

132 Plumbing Mathematics and Procedures II (3)

Prerequisite: Plumbing 121, 122, 123. Taken concurrently with Plumbing 131 and 133 in the day program.

Layout procedures involving mensuration and mathematics concerning the plumbing trades, including both layout and design criteria and instruction.

133 Installation and Plumbing Fixtures (6)

Prerequisite: Plumbing 121, 122, 123. Taken concurrently with Plumbing 131 and 132 in the day program.

Lecture, 3.5 hours; Laboratory, 7.5 hours

Fabrication and erection of plumbing systems, including the finished plumbing fixture installed and test asper UPC data.

141 Advanced Layout and Procedures (3)

Prerequisite: Plumbing 131, 132, 133. Taken concurrently with Plumbing 142, 143, and 144 in the day program.

Lecture, 3 hours

Proper methods of layout and installation procedures; fabrication and erection of piping in commercial buildings; local and national codes.

142 Servicing of Plumbing Fixtures and Appliances (3)

Prerequisite: Plumbing 131, 132, 133.  Taken concurrently with Plumbing 141, 143, and 144 in the day program.

Lecture, 1.5 hours; Laboratory, 4.5 hours

Proper methods of repairing plumbing fixtures and appliances; preparing for the repair job; costing the job.

143 Plumbing Code I (3)

Prerequisite: Plumbing 131, 132, 133. Taken concurrently with Plumbing 141, 142, and 144 in the day program.

Lecture, 1.5 hours; Laboratory, 4.5 hours

The building code as it relates to plumbing; emphasis on the effective use of the code.

144 Special Purposes Installation (3)

Prerequisite: Plumbing 131, 132, 133.  Taken concurrently with Plumbing 141, 142, and 143 in the day program.

Lecture, 1.5 hours; Laboratory, 4.5 hours

Fabrication and erection of piping for the proper installation of special appliances and fixtures; special methods used in the construction of these fixtures as well as special testing procedures.

145 Plumbing Instruction and Service (3)

Prerequisite: Plumbing 112

Plumbing system introduction that involves both design and the installation of small segments of water, gas, and the installation of fixtures and appliances. Plumbing service work is introduced and allows practical applications.
