PHOTOGRAPHY – ASSOCIATE IN ARTS DEGREE
Photography leads to a great variety of specialization. Portraiture is the art of photographing individuals and groups for family, business, fashion, and editorial use; commercial and illustration photography provides photographs for business and advertising; and technical photography, for science, engineering and industrial use are examples of these specializations.
Photographers can
be employed by studios, businesses, industry, or research organizations, or the
photographer may free-lance in a specialty field. The employment market for
photographers is intensely competitive and only those photographers best
meeting the job requirements are considered. Evidence of experience, training,
and quality of the portfolio are used in evaluating job candidates. The first
job some photography graduates obtain is in a photography lab and, as they gain
experience, often change to studio jobs.
Requirements for the Associate in Arts Degree in Photography may be met by completing the required courses below with a grade of “C” or better in each, and sufficient academic courses to meet the Plan B graduation requirement. The listed core electives also may be substituted for courses in the Photography major with the approval of the Department Head.
