Los Angeles Trade-Technical College is currently developing a green business certification program that consists of "cleaning and greening" college departments to operate within the standards of a green certified business and training individuals for emerging occupations in green business certification. Currently this program is in the research and development phase at the college. Below are specific activities that are being piloted or are in development.

greening programs to operate as "certified green businesses within a college". The goal of the Green Businesses Within a College program is to re-engineer departments to operate within the standards of a green certified business. By doing so the departments can model policies, practices, and facilities for "cleaning" and "greening" industries. Most importantly, students who graduate from these programs are fully immersed in practices of operating a green certified business to the point it becomes second nature.

greening policies, practices, and facilities. The Automotive and Diesel Technology programs are currently pilot departments for "cleaning" and "greening" policies, practices, and facilities to meet the standards of a certified green business. This includes bringing department operations into compliance with all environmental regulations, going beyond compliance to meet the standards of green practices, and employing targeted resource conservation and pollution prevention measures. Measures the department is taking to conserve water, reduce solid waste and recycle, conserve energy, and prevent pollution includes using biodegradable soap, non-caustic, and ultra-sonic cleaners that are water dilutive for cleaning parts; recycling automotive parts/materials; and trapping auto collision paint vapors through a complex filtering process.

green business certification education modules/options. The Automotive and Diesel Technology programs are currently developing pilot green business certification education modules. The certification modules provide current students and incumbent workers with a new career option for becoming an automotive green business certifier. The program includes courses on safety and compliance standards, conservation and pollution prevention measures, business consulting practices, financial strategies for audit cost management, techniques for building relationships with businesses while holding them compliant/accountable, and a capstone course in which students complete a green business certification.

green business workshops, seminars, and resources. As the Automotive department is transformed into a green certified business within the College, the department will also develop a series of workshops, seminars, and resource materials for business and community members who are interested in green business certification.
