sept 2008 - LATTC is awarded a two year, $1.35 million grant from the DOE to implement the STEM Success Program (SSP) in collaboration with CSULA. All STEM Success Program (SSP) components will be integrated with the College's "Green College Initiative".  The focus on the environment and sustainability initiatives in all activities in the SSP not only addresses a global need, but is also a documented area of interest among high school students and therefore, will create additional avenues for recruitment and sustained interest in STEM.

june 2008 - Los Angeles Trade-Technical College's Solar Design, Installation, and Maintenace courses receive NABCEP (North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners) approval. For more information on the solar series click here.

spring 2008 - Los Angeles Trade-Technical College's Diesel Technology program faculty member Jess Guerra and his students conduct biodiesel research using opacity testing to assess the measures opacity of different biodiesel fuels including B20 and B99.

may 2008 - Green College Initiative is included in the College's five-year strategic plan.

may 2008 - Construction, Design, and Manufacturing department establishes the Sustainable Energy Center-- a hub for courses, activities, and programs related to renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies.

april 2008 - Curriculum approved for new Solar Design, Installation, and Maintenace series in the Construction, Design, and Manufacturing and the Electronics departments. For more information on the solar series click here.

april 2008 - Renewable Energy curriculum approved in the Construction, Design, and Manufacturing department.

mar 2008 -  Diesel program launches Introduction to Alternative Fuels course in which new and emerging "green" or "clean" fuels and technologies such as CNG, biodiesel, LNG, ethanol, fuel cell, and hybrid.

mar 2008 - Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) program begins thermal heat storage course/training program (54 hours).

feb 2008 - The Regional Economic Development Institute @ Los Angeles Trade-Technical College commissions Clean Technology Workforce Challenges and Opportunities report.

jan 2008 - Automotive and Diesel Technology programs begin "cleaning" and "greening" its policies, practices, and facilities to meet the standards of a certified green business.

dec 2007 - Based on research conducted by the Regional Economic Development Institute, the College identifies and prioritizes new green workforce development and training programs...begins developing curriculum for new green programs.

dec 2007 -The Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) donates two Series 50G Detroit Diesel engines to the Diesel Technology program.  This significant donation to the program of engines that run on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fuel enables the program to provide training for students and industry partners on alternative fuel technology.

nov 2007 - Automotive department hosts the Challenge X Road Rally.  Challenge X: Crossover to Sustainable Mobility is a competition developed by General Motors Corporation (GM), DOE, and other government and industry leaders.  This ground-breaking, three-year competition gives engineering schools an opportunity to participate in hands-on research and development with leading-edge clean and green automotive propulsion, fuels, materials, and emissions-control technologies.

oct/nov 2007 - Los Angeles Trade-Technical College and the LA Infrastructure and Sustainbility Jobs Collaborative hosts two-day, green industry and educators forum.

fall 2007 - Los Angeles Trade-Technical College Culinary Arts Department begins recycling used vegetable oil for bio-diesel.

fall 2007 - In conjunction with the California Air Resources Board, the Diesel Technology program offers training on the technology, installation, and repair of computer controlled, CARB-certified exhaust control device(s) that reduce particulate matter and possibly other precursor emissions. The training includes both the diagnosis and repair of the filter and of the computer controls that monitor and operate the filter.

fall 2007 - Los Angeles Trade-Technical College breaks ground on South Campus construction--the largest LEED-certified construction project in the Los Angeles Community College District's A/AA bond construction program.

july 2007 - The Regional Economic Development Institute @ Los Angeles Trade-Technical College starts to host the Los Angeles Infrastructure and Sustainability Jobs Collaborative. The purpose of the LA Infrastructure and Sustainable Jobs Collaborative is to bring together key public, private and community partners to plan and implement a seamless education, training and workforce infrastructure that connects low income, disadvantaged populations to livable wage jobs with career paths within the energy-utility and other green industries.

june 2007 - Los Angeles Trade-Technical College receives planning grant from the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power to establish the Sustainable Development Education and Training Institute (SDETI).  Click here for a description of the SDETI planning grant.

june 2007 - Los Angeles Trade-Technical College receives million dollar grant from the Bank of America Foundation to establish the Regional Economic Development Institute (REDI).  Through REDI, the College begins implementing sector-based research and training intiatives in green industry sectors.

april 2007 - Architecuture program implements sustainable design principles and materials into its CAD design courses.  This includes the use of REVIT CAD application software that enables students to identify and use sustainable products and procedures in the design of residential and commercial structures.

march 2007 - Green curriculum and programs survey conducted at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College.  Establishes priorities for new course and program development.

fall 2006 - Los Angeles Trade-Technical College's College Council approves the adoption of the Green College Initiative.
