A Course Change Request form (MS Word) is necessary to change the attributes of a course. If a course
exists at Trade Tech ONLY, the faculty can change any attribute; if a course
also exists at one of our sister colleges, district approval may be required.
These attributes need district approval, if the course is taught at another
college:
- Subject title -- discipline
- Course number -- make sure it's not already taken!
- Course title -- to succinctly describe the content
- Units -- a change in units will probably require a change in hours
- CSU Transferability -- to add/remove articulation
with CSU for elective credit
- Cross Reference -- if the course is identical to a course in another
discipline
- TOP Code -- make sure it's on the state
list
- Course Classification -- to change a course's vocational/non-vocational
status
- Special Class Status -- to change whether a course is designed for
students with disabilities.
- Basic Skills Indicator -- to change a course's basic skills (English,
Math, ESL, reading) status
These attributes DO NOT need district approval, even if the course is taught
at another college:
- Hours -- increase/decrease hours following the Carnegie
Rule
- UC Transferability -- to add/remove articulation
with UC for elective credit
- Repeatability -- to increase/decrease the repeatability for credit (not to
be confused with repeating a substandard grade)
- SAM Code -- to indicate the vocational status of a course
- Department -- if the course is moving to another department, indicate the
two-digit department codes.
- Other -- anything else not found here!
Instructions for completing the form (printed on green paper):
- Basic Course Information (as the course is BEFORE any changes):
College: Trade Tech
Subject code -- see list (MS Excel)
Course number
Course title -- as found in catalog
- Change Requested:
Complete the fields in the area(s) which you are changing (listed above)
From: currently listed element
To: how you would like the course listed in the future?
Justification: WHY is this change necessary?
-
Effective semester -- allow 4 months processing time
- Approvals:
Signed by the department chair and dean of academic
affairs
Submit the completed form and an updated course
outline (which reflects these changes) to the Agenda Review Subcommittee to place the change
on the next Curriculum Committee agenda. If Trade-Tech is the only college
in the district to have this course, the college's Curriculum Committee must
approve it. If other colleges in the district have the course as well, the
other colleges must concur with the proposed changes. After the Curriculum
Committee approves it, it will then go the the district for further approval.
