STEAM You have to love the energy on campus when the middle school and high school students join in the first big Saturday of the STEAM Academy. This Saturday, dozens of students attended the opening sessions and got their first taste of class on a community college campus. Thanks need to go to our STEAM Academy organizers and all of the faculty and staff who take part in welcoming the young people.
Day of Dialogue This past week, the campus held its first Day of Dialogue of the semester, with the monthly gathering being re-branded as a Day of Learning. This meeting will now be focused on professional development and will integrate with workshops and exercises provided by USC’s Center for Urban Education to help with improvement in our pathway strategies. With our PACTS implementation, the work now will look at making sure all aspects of the campus are tied to PACTS. Leading this effort, was the handful of campus folks who have taken part in the PACTS Leadership Academy. Faculty and staff members were among the first team, and the group members were honored with certificates at the Day of Learning. We look to their guidance as we move forward with even more effective pathway work.
LFSA The Latinx Faculty and Staff Association will hold its third event culminating the celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. We will be welcoming our chancellor Dr. Francisco Rodriguez to the South Tent on Wednesday September 26th at 11:30am. Not only will we hear from the chancellor, but the band Guvie Malito and Dirty Harvard Band will perform. Taco Taxi will be available for some great food, and the LFSA will be announcing the student essay winner as well as giving away two major raffle prizes. We need students and employees to come out and support this event. Please make plans to attend. Everyone is invited, everyone is welcome.
National Voter Registration Day Student organizations throughout the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) are organizing a variety of events in conjunction with National Voter Registration Day on September 25, 2018. The district-wide student voter registration activities are also in response to a call by Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and the March for Our Lives organization to ensure young people are empowered to let their voices be heard at the ballot box.
