Great California Shakeout this Thursday 10/18

As a reminder, this Thursday is the Great California ShakeOut. That’s the statewide earthquake preparedness drill that takes place every October. This year the event is taking place on 10/18 at 10:18am. We are NOT practicing an evacuation. So simply duck, cover and hold when you hear the announcement on Thursday morning. This is an opportunity to check on communication platforms. Make sure you inform facilities if you do not hear the corresponding message.

Manufacturing Day is Tuesday October 16th

This Tuesday October 16th is Manufacturing Day on our campus and it will celebrate the great work being done by faculty, staff, and students in our Construction, Maintenance and Utilities and our Advanced Transportation and Manufacturing pathways. We are inviting several high schools to bring students to the event to get a first-hand look at our programs. If you have a chance, come by the South Tent on Tuesday and see our presentations.

Statewide Week of Action to Support Undocumented Students

The California Community College Chancellor’s Office has called for a Week of Action in support of Undocumented Students throughout the state. Here at Trade Tech, we have scheduled several events this week, as part of a campaign to make all undocumented students feel welcome and supported. This college has a long history of being a place where we outreach to all students no matter their status, and we have worked hard to make all students successful. The Bridges to Success staff and our Dream Resource Center staff are leading this support, so please support them.

LATTC Foundation Dinner is an Historic Success

It was the most successful LATTC Foundation Student Benefit Dinner in history. It was a night where our students, our honorees, and our legacy as a community college were showcased and celebrated. The student benefit dinner raised more than $500,000 in one night, but it also raised Los Angeles Trade-Technical College image as an innovative leader in career education and one of building and providing opportunities for students. Our foundation leadership, including board president David Crippens deserves congratulations for creating an amazing evening. Our honorees, Sylvia Castillo (Union Bank Foundation), Brian D’Arcy (IBEW Local 18), Deborah Flint (LA World Airports), Todd Stevens (California Resources Corporation), and special LATTC alumnus Micky Dolenz (formerly of the Monkees), were gracious and giving of their name and time to support our fundraising for students. Of course, our culinary arts students led by department chair Chef Stacy Damaso and the culinary faculty, were incredible in their food presentation and service. For those of you who attended, the support is appreciated. The funds will support scholarships, Tools for the Trades, and so many other efforts.
